FACT CHECK: How much the KCPS school bond would cost you
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - On Tuesday, April 8, Kansas City voters will decide a school bond issue for Kansas City Public Schools (KCPS). It asks for a $474 million dollar general obligation bond “To promote public education, student and teacher safety, and academic performance.”
It’s been 57 years since Kansas City taxpayers passed a school bond, and the district says KCPS is the only district in the region without bonds for funding.
The bond would benefit every child in the district. The average school building in the district is 60 years old. Many need urgent repairs.

But just how much will each property owner pay for these improvements?
The district says that a homeowner, with a property valued at $200,000, would pay $0.64 a day in increased taxes, or $19.21 a month,
A commercial property at the same $200,000 value would pay almost $400 a year more in taxes.
