KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The City of Fountains canceled the annual festival celebrating Kansas City’s landmarks.

The City of Fountains Foundation announced Fountain Fest 2025 will not happen because of unrelated public demonstrations that may happen Saturday near Mill Creek Park.

The celebration honors the more than 200 fountains across the metro.

Mill Creek Park is also a location where demonstrators and protestors gather to voice their opinions on different issues. People have gathered there in the past weeks to rally against President Donald Trump’s administration, Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), federal spending cuts and more.

Saturday’s plein air event is also canceled over the possible demonstrations.

Organizers said the public can still take part in the Spring Open Capture Challenge. The event is a way to create fountain-inspired art from three featured locations. The group asks artists to then use the artwork to help with awareness about the fountains. More information about the event can be found on the City of Fountains website.

The foundation said the fountains will still be turned on this spring.

The group invites the public to gather at Mill Creek Park on Wednesday, April 23, for Fountain Day.
