KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - An arrest warrant has been issued for a Raytown man believed to have shot a firearm at his roommate before it jammed.

Jackson County, Missouri, Circuit Court records filed on Monday, May 5, indicate that Douglass R. Shinault, Jr., 36, of Raytown, has been charged in connection with a recent shooting.

A probable cause statement filed by the Kansas City Police Department revealed that on Friday, law enforcement officials were called to a local home with reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they met with a victim who reported that he and his roommate, Shinault, had gotten into an altercation.

Ultimately, investigators said it was alleged that Shinault shot a handgun twice, before it jammed, at the victim. He got into his car and sped off before police arrived. A bullet and a hole were found in the home’s kitchen.

Law enforcement officials noted that they spotted Shinault’s vehicle, which had broken down, near E. 89th and Booth Ave. He was taken into custody without incident, as the gun in question was found in his possession.

During an interview with investigators, they said Shinault admitted to the shooting. As a result, he has been charged with unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful discharge of a firearm. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to 5 years behind bars and be forced to pay a fine of up to $30,000.

A warrant for Shinault’s arrest was issued on Monday with the condition of a $10,000 bond. As of Wednesday, May 7, he does not appear to be behind bars. A hearing has not yet been scheduled in the case.
