K-State women’s basketball team advances to first Sweet 16 since 2002
LEXINGTON, Ky. (KCTV) - The Kansas State women’s basketball team will keep dancing this March.
The Wildcats topped Kentucky 80-79 in overtime on Sunday to advance to this week’s Sweet 16 in Spokane, Washington.
The program last reached this point of the NCAA Tournament in 2002.
K-State trailed by five with 1:18 to go in regulation before regaining the lead with back-to-back three-pointers from Jaelyn Glenn and Temira Poindexter.

Kentucky responded with a three of their own from Georgia Amoore to go up two with 32 seconds left.
Serena Sundell scored the tying bucket with eight seconds to go, before K-State secured a stop on the final possession to send the game to overtime.
Temira Poindexter hit a go-ahead three with 56 seconds left in overtime. Kentucky couldn’t get a potential game-winner to go at the buzzer.
Poindexter finished with eight three-pointers (8-15) for a team-high 24 points. Serena Sundell logged a double-double with 19 points and 14 assists. Ayoka Lee chipped in 16 points and 9 boards.
K-State will either play No. 1 USC or No. 9 Mississippi State for a trip to the Elite Eight. The Trojans and Bulldogs play at 9 p.m. on Monday.
